Among many characteristics, TFI seeks to identify students who have demonstrated academic achievement, perseverance in the face of challenges, a strong motivation to graduate from college and financial need.

Who is Eligible?

Black, Latino, and other young men of color, attending New York City public high schools, and who: 
  • Are currently enrolled in the 9th grade.
  • Have earned a GPA of 77 (out of 100) or higher, at least a C+ grade average, or a minimum GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Are nominated by their school Principals.

All nomination forms must be completed and submitted by February 12, 2010.

Application Instructions and Timeline

  • School Principals must submit nominees to TFI Selection Committee by February 12, 2010. 
  • TFI Selection Committee will mail application materials to nominated students. 
  • Nominees must return completed TFI applications, postmarked by March 15, 2009. Please download a copy of the TFI application.
  • Candidates will be invited to interview with the TFI Selection Committee.
  • The names of students selected to participate in the fellowship will be announced in April 2010.
  • TFI orientation will begin in Spring 2010.

Application Deadline

Students nominated to apply to The Fellowship Initiative must return completed TFI applications, postmarked by March 15, 2009.
